Definition :

Mini gastric bypass surgery also called as One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass is a short, simple, and reversible laparoscopic gastric bypass weight loss surgery. The operation usually takes a shorter time, with a lesser hospital stay compared to the conventional Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass.

Procedure of Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery –

Mini gastric bypass surgery is carried out under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes five small incisions on your stomach. Through one incision, a laparoscopic telescope is inserted then a doctor can easily see internal organs on a monitor. Small surgical instruments are inserted by other incisions to elicit the surgery.

Follow the Steps for Surgery of Mini Gastric Bypass –

Steps 1:

In the first step, the size of the stomach is reduced so that it holds less food, and appetite is also reduced. In surgery, doctors create a long stomach pouch that separates from the rest of the stomach. No food goes into the remaining stomach which is below the staple line. The stomach continuously secretes the enzyme and gastric juice which is necessary for digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Steps 2:

In the second step, bypass is created for food to flow from the new stomach pouch thereby bypassing the food from the lower stomach, duodenum, and a portion of the small intestine.

Criteria of mini-gastric bypass –

Bariatric surgery is recommended by doctors as a first-line option for the treatment of obesity for candidates with BMI >35 with or without co-morbidities.

Mini gastric bypass or bariatric surgery is recommended for > BMI 30  for the patients who have Type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and related obesity comorbidities.
