Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in the human body contains protein. You need it in your diet to help your body repair cells and build new cells. Post Bariatric surgery your calorie intake is less, hence it is important for you to have major calories coming from proteins.
Protein helps your body in a many ways after your surgery. It helps in maintaining and building muscle mass that is essential for weight loss. If your body is unable to get enough protein from outside sources (diet), it will break down even more of your muscle mass to compensate.
Protein also helps in wound healing and ultimately helps your body to recover from the surgery. Other reasons for you to consume protein include healthier skin, hair, nails and good immunity.
